Advantages of high-speed milling
High-speed milling (HSM) used for machining molds is a machining
technology that allows for obtaining high dimensional accuracy by
moving a small tool with a special shape at a high speed. A comparison
between electric discharge machining (EDM) and high-speed machining
shows that EDM has a dimensional error of no less than 0.005 mm,
while HSM has a dimensional error of no larger than 0.002. HSM requires
neither coolant nor lubricating oil since the generated heat is
low and the oxidized chip has a lubricating effect.
